Root Board Game

Root is a contest for control of a vast woodland, where two to four players guide rival factions through adventure and war. The Marquise de Cat has seized the forest and seeks to harvest its riches, while the woodland’s creatures organize an Alliance to build resources and undermine Cat rule. The wandering Vagabonds can support the Alliance, moving along the more dangerous paths, while the Eyrie prepare to reclaim the authority their birds once held.

Each faction approaches the struggle from a different position: the Cats impose their rule and exploit the woods, the Alliance grows its resources and resists, the Vagabonds travel between the forest’s threats and factions, and the Eyrie seek to restore their ancient birthright under a new commander. Players’ choices determine how power shifts across the region as they develop their faction, navigate rival interests, and contest the woodland. The central loop combines movement, resource-building, factional conflict, and tactical alliances, with the outcome deciding which group ultimately takes root.
